Canto Visual surge a partir de la residencia que hace la artista Francisca Benítez durante tres meses en Gasworks, Inglaterra, como parte de la Beca AMA 2012. Es una obra participativa que consiste en la transformación del museo en una escuela de lengua de señas, siendo su objetivo central la creación de un espacio de integración entre sordos y oyentes. El proyecto parte de un deseo personal de la artista por aprender esta lengua y compartir la experiencia con quienes tengas una inquietud similar. Benítez utiliza así los recursos disponibles para generar una oportunidad educacional abierta, gratuita y experimental.

Canto Visual comes up with the residence of the artist Francisca Benítez, during three months at GasWorks in England. It was part of the AMA grant 2012. It is a participative piece of work that consists in the transformation of the museum in a school of sign language, trying to create a space of integration between deaf and people that can hear. The project starts from a private wish that had the artist, she wanted to learn this type of language and then share the experience with other people that had a similar curiosity. Benítez uses the resources available in order to generate an educational opportunity that is open, free and experimental.
