“CONVENCIONES Y DESENCUENTROS: UNA EXPOSICIÓN SOBRE EL AMOR”
Con la instalación Sobre la contradicción emocional que propicia el fenómeno del amor (o como es que el ideal romántico como convención cultural es incompatible con los fenómenos de la materia y las mecánicas de la vida), el docente de la Escuela de Arte de la Universidad Diego Portales, Javier González, obtuvo el primer lugar del Premio Arte Joven MAVI – Minera Escondida en 2012 y hoy, a dos años de esto, el artista vuelve al museo, ahora en solitario, para presentar El ser tan Bella No te da Derecho a Destruir, muestra que se inaugurará el próximo 5 de junio.
Tan sugerente como el nombre, la exposición se centra en analizar y trabajar en torno a cómo se han elaborado las convenciones respecto a una emoción a la vez tan universal y tan única como el amor y la forma en que estas mismas son codificadas. En este caso, el artista propone que muchas veces estas convenciones no saben gobernar ni organizar la emoción, emergiendo allí la violencia como mecanismo de administración del lenguaje de la pasión.
De este modo, la observación específica que cruza temáticamente este proyecto tiene que ver, justamente, con el momento en que estas frustraciones, determinadas por la constante y siempre probable incongruencia de apreciaciones en torno a un mismo sentir, terminan por desatar reacciones violentas a fin de intentar regular la intensidad del amor.
Ya lo adelantaba María Irene Alcalde, curadora de MAVI, al indicar que “Javier González presentará una muestra que seguramente dará que hablar, ya que invita al público a reflexionar en forma humorística y con una gran dosis de ironía, acerca de un tema tan cercano como las relaciones amorosas”. Para esto, escultura y materiales trabajados con distintos procesos darán vida a espacios metafóricos que le permitirán al autor traer a lo concreto momentos pura y propiamente emocionales.
Consolidando una alianza para el arte joven.
El Premio Arte Joven MAVI-Minera Escondida -anteriormente conocido como “Cabeza de Ratón”-, es uno de los concursos de arte más relevantes del país por su alto nivel de convocatoria, además, desde 2006 se ha posicionado como un evento que busca generar oportunidades para jóvenes creadores nacionales, a través de la exhibición de su obra con miras a proyectar su carrera profesional.
Así, la exhibición, señala Alcalde, “constituye la segunda vez que el concurso incorpora una exposición en el museo como parte del premio” y afirma que “para MAVI ha sido una muy interesante experiencia, ya que ha demostrado que la apuesta ha surtido efecto: el exhibir en el museo se ha transformado en uno de los alicientes más anhelados de los participantes del concurso”.
El artista.
Artista visual y curador independiente que vive y trabaja en Santiago de Chile. Es licenciado en Bellas Artes, mención escultura, por la Universidad ARCIS (2008) y actualmente es académico de pregrado en la Escuela de Artes Visuales de la Universidad Diego Portales. Su trabajo ha sido exhibido en el país de forma individual y colectivamente también ha estado presente en Argentina, Estados Unidos, Suiza, Grecia y China. En 2012 obtuvo el primer lugar en el VII Concurso Premio Arte Joven MAVI-Minera Escondida, además fue nominado a los Premios Altazor en la categoría Escultura.
Como curador, ha trabajado desarrollando proyectos para espacios como Galería ANIMAL (2010), Galería Loewenthal (2011), Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes (2013) y EAC (Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo, Montevideo, Uruguay, 2013-2014). Desde 2011 co-dirige el espacio independiente LOCAL Arte Contemporáneo en donde ha realizado labores curatoriales y de gestión. En 2013 obtiene el primer lugar del concurso para curadores del Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes con su proyecto Los Órganos Vitales de unas Obras con Cuerpos Invisibles. Ha escrito para exposiciones, catálogos y libros de numerosos artistas nacionales tanto en chile como en el extranjero.

“CONVENTIONS AND DISAGREEMENTS: AN EXHIBITION ABOUT LOVE”
With the emotional contradiction that generates the love phenomenon, the art teacher of the art school at Diego Portales university, Javier González, got the first place in the MAVI Young Art Award – Escondida Mine in 2012 and two years later (today) the artists comes back to the museum alone to present his exhibition named El ser tan Bella No te da Derecho a Destruir/TO BE SO BEAUTIFUL (DOES NOT GIVE) THE RIGHT TO DESTROY, this exhibition will be inaugurated the 5th of June.
This exhibition is focused in analyzing and working among how the convention of a universal and unique emotion such as love has been elaborated and the way they are codified. In this case, the artist proposes that many times this conventions don´t know how to organize or manage emotions and because of this, violence emerges as an administration mechanism of passion language.
In this way, the specific observation that crosses subjects in this project is related with the moment when this frustrations determined by the constant and probable contradiction in the appreciation of a feeling end up triggering violent reactions trying to regulate love intensity.
María Irene Alcalde, curator of MAVI, said “Javier González will show an exhibition that will draw attention and make people talk about it because he invited the public to think about relationships in a humoristic and ironic way”. Sculptures and worked materials with different processes will bring to life metaphoric spaces that will permit the author to show pure and emotional moments.
Consolidating a youthful art alliance.
The MAVI Young Art Award – Escondida Mine Award–before known as “Cabeza de Ratón”/ “Mouse Head”, is one of the most relevant contests in the country because of its high level of call, also since 2006 it has positioned as an event that wants to generate opportunities for young national creators through the exhibition of their pieces of work with the intention of projecting their professional career.
The exhibition “constitutes the second time that the contest adds an exposition in the museum as part of the award”, said Alcalde and “it has been an interesting experience for MAVI because it has been demonstrated that it has had good results: exhibiting in the museum has transformed in one of the most wanted incentives of the participants of the contest” she affirmed.
The artist
Visual artist and independent curator, who lives and works in Santiago-Chile. He is graduated in fine arts with a minor in sculpture at the ARCIS University (2008) and currently he is an undergraduate teacher in the school of visual arts in Diego Portales University. His work has been exhibited in the country individually and collectively. He has also been present in Argentina, United States, Switzerland, Greece and China. In 2012 he obtained the first place in the VII MAVI- Escondida Mine Young Art Award Contest; he also was nominated to the Altazor awards in the Sculpture category.
As a curator, he has worked developing proyects for spaces as ANIMAL Gallery (2010), Loewenthal Gallery (2011), National Council of Culture and the Arts (2013) and EAC (Contemporary Art Space, Uruguay, Montevideo,(2013-2014). Since 2014, he has co directed the independent LOCAL space of Contemporary Art where he has done curatorial and management labors. In 2013 he got the first place in contest for curators of the National Council of Culture and the Arts with his project called Los Órganos Vitales de unas Obras con Cuerpos Invisibles/ The Vital Organs of Works with Invisible Bodies. He has written for exhibitions, catalogs and books of several national artists in Chile and in other countries.
