Es importante decir que Audiard se inspira para esta realización, con una posibilidad de universo muy atractivo  al poner su atención como referencia directa, en un oscuro título de cine norteamericano de los 70: “Fingers”dirigida por James Toback. Film valiente y arriesgado quizás más que la propia mirada de Audiard, pero que indudablemente en manos de este logra hacerse de una cinematográfica más contundente, no mejor ni peor,  sino distinta y de un cierto peso, capaz de empezar a presentar, a dar luces de lo que hoy es la mirada y la  mano del premiado cineasta francés.

Quizás lo que más atrajo a Audiard para poner atención en esta historia, es lo que podríamos subrayar hoy como un elemento medular del cine de Audiard… La relación amorosa compleja y conflictiva entre el padre y el hijo, que además denota cierta marca autobiográfica (Audiard es hijo del gran guionista y dialoguista francés Michel Audiard).  La figura del padre está en el centro de los guiones de Audiard, en casi todos sus títulos de alguna manera, los padres (ausentes o presentes) e hijos (aprendiendo o des-aprendiendo, o definitivamente buscando) construyen un discurso de códigos y conflictos masculino. Con estas piezas Audiard va detrás de ir pulsando un palpitar, un ritmo(… el de un corazón), el de una vida en particular y sus marcas en  distintas capas, anotaciones que van articulando como en la escritura de una partitura, la idea de una conversación entre sonidos que ocurren y tensan los distintos planos en que transcurre el relato audiovisual de la película, que combinan la búsqueda de repuestas a inquietudes y sentimientos más íntimos de un individuo, con una mirada que roza cuadros sociales más complejos ; el de la marginalidad, la pobreza en la clases más bajas y la dura realidad de los emigrantes… temáticas que empezaran a ser las columnas de fuerza en el actual cine de Audiard( “El  profeta”, “Dheepan”). “De latir mi corazón se ha detenido”, no me parece un film complaciente, a pesar de que golpea la sensibilidad del espectador por la veraz falibilidad psicológica de sus personajes y el preciosismo de su puesta en escena,articula en torno a su personaje principal Tom, una mezcla interesante de energía, furia, pasión y ciertos arrebatos, que debate su cuestionamiento interno entre seguir los pasos de su padre,  en un  sórdido negocio inmobilario o convertirse en un virtuoso concertista en piano, de la mano de un talento único heredado de su madre muerta que fue una importante pianista, y que representa para el, la otra posibilidad de su vida, un otro yo muy distinto y distante a la pesada y dañina sombra de su padre como modelo.. El personaje que logra construir  el conocido actor francés Romain Duris, una suerte de artista maldito… Convence en una combinación de actuación muy viva, rica en matices y ciertos giros por momentos muy extremos pero que confluyen en un filmen que mezcla muy bien las características  de un cine de rasgos autoral, más con aires de cine comercial, una factura hermosa y coherente sujeta en una muy cuidada fotografía y un montaje ágil que sabe respirar el pulso de una particular melodía que Audiard y su equipo construyen, música como camino de salvación o al menos como una salida que oxigena y aquietar el alma perturbada de un individuo. Un cine que funciona, que respira y que definitivamente  nos seduce en la mayoría de los momentos que nos entrega como espectadores cómplices, en la crisis que representa la desesperada y vertiginosa  búsqueda de identidad  de su joven protagonista.

It is important to say that Audiard is inspired by this realization, with a very attractive universe possibility, putting his attention as a direct reference, in a dark American film title of the 70s: “Fingers” directed by James Toback. A very brave and risky film perhaps more than the own point of view of Audiard, but undoubtedly with this he manages to make a more forceful cinema, no better or worse, but different, able to present the beginning of what today is the point of view and the hand of the award-winning French filmmaker.

Perhaps what most attracted Audiard to pay attention to this story is what we could highlight today as a core element of Audiard’s cinema … The complex and conflicting love relationship between father and son, which also denotes a certain autobiographical brand (Audiard Is the son of the great French writer and dialogueist Michel Audiard).

The father figure is at the center of Audiard’s scripts, in almost all of his titles in some way, parents (absent or present) and children (learning or un-learning, or definitely searching) build a dialogue of male codes and conflicts. With these pieces, Audiard goes after a throbbing, a rhythm (… of a heart), of a particular life and its marks in different levels, annotations that articulate, as in the writing of a music sheet, the idea of A conversation between sounds that occur and tighten the different frames in which the audiovisual story of the film takes place, which combine the search for answers to more intimate feelings and concerns of an individual, with a look that touches more complex social pictures, of marginality, poverty in the lower classes and the harsh reality of the emigrants … thematic that would begin to be the pillars of strength in the current Audiard cinema (“The Prophet”, “Dheepan”).

” The Beat that my heart skipped,” does not seem like a complacent film, although it hits the sensitivity of the viewer by the psychological fallibility of its characters and the beauty of its staging, articulates around its main character Tom, an interesting mix of energy, fury, passion and certain outbreaks, that debates his internal questioning between following the footsteps of his father, in a real estate business or becoming a virtuous piano player, with a unique talent inherited from his dead mother who was an important pianist, and represents for him, the other possibility of his life, another very different and distant self to the heavy and damaging shadow of his father as a model .. the known French actor Romain Duris manages to build a sort of damned artist character … Persuades in a combination of very lively performance, rich in nuances and certain turns for very extreme moments but that converge in a film that mixes very well the characteristics of a cinema with autobiographic features, with an air of commercial cinema, a beautiful and coherent film based on a very careful photography and an agile montage that knows how to breathe the pulse of a particular melody that Audiard and his team created, music as a way of salvation or at least as an exit that oxygenates And calms the disturbed soul of an individual. A cinema that works, breathes and that definitely seduces us in most of the moments delivered to us as accomplices spectators, in the crisis that represents the search of identity of this young protagonist.
