En junio del presente año vivimos un particular cierre de la exposición Falsa Modestia de Ignacio Gumucio, donde con un concierto de Ignacio, acompañado de su banda, se puso fin a la exitosa muestra que expuso un mural y alrededor de 40 pinturas con las que mostró, a su manera, los géneros más recurrentes de ésta, como el paisaje, las escenas, la alegoría y el retrato.
Pero no sólo eso, también incluyó videos hechos en colaboración con los artistas Luis Cosiña, Álvaro Díaz, Gonzalo Aguirre, Pier Stockholm y Carolina Saquel, además de una película de ficción -de 25 minutos- escrita y realizada por el mismo Gumucio. En ella se relatan cinco historias ejemplares a propósito de la relación maestro-discípulo en la enseñanza del arte.
El nombre de la exposición se debe a que, según Gumucio, “a los artistas hay que creerles poco cuando hablan de la relación que mantienen con su obra, porque suelen mostrarse exageradamente arrogantes o ridículamente humildes”. Como él también ha caído en esos juegos, describe la falsa modestia, como la instancia “que nubla y desvirtúa el pensamiento” a la hora de definir cómo son sus pinturas.
Por lo mismo señala que de las diez muestras individuales que ha presentado desde 1996, todas han sido como la primera y como, imagina, será la última. “Pinto sin progresar, sin consolidar, haciendo diez veces mis primeras armas”, explica el artista.

In June of this year we lived a particular closing of the exhibition “Falsa Modestia” / “False Modesty” by Ignacio Gumucio, where Ignacio and his band ended with a concert the successful exhibition, that exhibited a mural and about 40 paintings with which he showed, In his way, the most recurrent genres, like the landscape, the scenes, the allegory and the portrait.
Not only that, it also included videos made in collaboration with artists Luis Cosiña, Álvaro Díaz, Gonzalo Aguirre, Pier Stockholm and Carolina Saquel, as well as a 25-minute fiction film written and made by Gumucio himself. It contains five exemplary stories about the master-disciple relationship in the teaching of art.
The name of the exhibition is due to the fact that, according to Gumucio, “You should never believe what artist say about the relationship they maintain with their work, because they are often exaggeratedly arrogant or ridiculously humble.” As he has also fallen into these games, he describes false modesty, as the instance “that clouds and distorts the thought” when defining their paintings.
He points out that of the ten individual samples he has presented since 1996, all have been like the first and as, he imagines, it will be the last. “I paint without progress, without consolidating, making ten times my first weapons,” explains the artist.
