Sinopsis
La película nos sitúa en plena “guerra del caucho” en el amazonas y narra entre 1909 y 1940 los diarios de viaje de dos científicos, el alemán Theodor Koch_ Grunberg y el norteamericano Richard Evans, junto a una especie de guía gurú un chamán amazónico Karamakate, en busca del yakruna, una planta sagrada difícil de conseguir.
Esta bella e interesante película ha recibido importantes reconocimientos, el Art Cinema Award de la quincena de realizadores en Cannes, su director ha construido la pieza final de una trilogía, iniciada con La sombra del caminante (2004), Los viajes del viento (2009), en la que aborda, como idea central, el viaje como jornada de transformación personal.
Una especie de metáfora visual que propone en El abrazo de la serpiente a el río como personaje principal en una especie de ser mítico que te abraza con su energía cíclica, que acompaña al hombre amazónico durante toda su vida. La realidad es que la selva es tan impenetrable que los recorridos se hacen a través del río; hay un homenaje al hombre que habita estos paisajes y que sobrevive relacionando con la naturaleza que lo rodea y que lo supera con una fuerza divina, tribus de raza: Tikuna, Kubeo, Huitoto y Ocaina que en alguna época surcaron esas aguas y que hoy aun sobreviven.
La película muestra la convivencia de dos universos distintos, el de los científicos y toda su experiencia en esta investigación de campo hecha junto a estos indígenas; como aprenden de las culturas nativas y como a la vez ellos van poniendo al servicio de los descubrimientos su conocimientos científicos, en un mensaje de diversidad cultural que mezcla dos extremos: la visión científica, exploradora y bien intencionada, curiosa y obsesionada no solo con las riquezas naturales de la región sino también por los misterios encerrados en sus plantas únicas de poder sanador y mágico. Del otro lado, la visión mágico iluminada chamánica, igualmente culta, desarrollada, respetuosa y temerosa del indígena, que es maestro y guía. Ambas visones conversan, se comunican, se complementan en el cruce de conocimientos y en el habitar de importantes momentos de experiencia de vida que forjan relaciones y vínculos en torno a este extraordinario y único viaje.

Synopsis: The film puts us in the middle of the “Gaucho war” in the Amazon and narrates the travel journals of two scientists, the German Theodor Koch_ Grunberg and the American Richard Evans, between 1909 and 1940, along with a kind of guide, a guru, a Karamakate Amazonian Shaman, in search of the yakruna, a sacred plant difficult to get.
This beautiful and interesting film has received important recognitions, the Art Cinema Award of the fifteen filmmakers in Cannes, its director has built the final piece of a trilogy, begun with Wandering Shadows (2004), The Wind Journeys (2009) In which he approaches, as a central idea, the journey as a transformation.
A kind of visual metaphor proposed in Embrace of the Serpent is the river as the main character in a kind of mythical being that embraces you with its cyclical energy, which accompanies the Amazonian man throughout his life. The reality is that the jungle is so impenetrable that the routes are made through the river; There is a tribute to the man who inhabits these landscapes and who survives living with the nature that surrounds him and that is much more than him due to a divine force, tribes of race: Tikuna, Kubeo, Huitoto and Ocaina that once crossed those waters and that survive today.
The film shows the coexistence of two different universes, the scientists and all their experience in this research field done with the natives; As they learn from the native cultures and at the same time they put their scientific knowledge at the service of the discoveries, in a message of cultural diversity that mixes two extremes: the scientific, exploratory and well-intentioned, curious and obsessed not only with natural resources of the place but also by the mysteries enclosed in its unique plants of healing and magical power. On the other side, the illuminated shamanic magical vision, equally cultured, developed, respectful and fearful of the native, who is a teacher and guide. Both visions discuss, communicate, complement each other in the crossing of knowledge and in the living of important moments of life experience that build up relationships and bonds around this extraordinary and unique journey.
