Es su fascinación por el pop la que la llevó a fijarse en la ultra popular película “Titanic” que James Cameron estrenó en 1997. ¿Su idea? Rehacer esta famosa cinta, pero con materiales de desecho, como cartón y plastilina que hacen de escenografía a las diferentes escenas que protagoniza, dirige y produce la misma Claudia Bitrán, junto con amigos, artistas y desconocidos que han aportado con sus actuaciones.
Es, también, uno de los mayores proyectos que esta artista visual chilena- estadounidense, egresada de la Pontificia Universidad Católica, ha desarrollado a lo largo de su carrera. ¿Qué exhibirá? Una exposición que muestra todo el backstage de su trabajo para llegar a filmar “Titanic, una emoción profunda”, la cinta que rehace al archiconocido filme y que trabaja desde hace un año y medio.
La muestra lleva por nombre “Profundo” y expone fotografías, videos, esculturas de cartón, papel y plastilina, entre otros trabajos que han dado vida a su película y que pone en evidencia lo que fue el monumental barco Titanic. “En esta exhibición los espectadores podrán sumergirse en las fantasías seductoras, oscuras, humorísticas y sorprendentemente profundas del mundo pop”, explica Claudia Bitrán, quien además es conocida por su participación en el programa de canal 13 Mi nombre es, donde interpretó meticulosamente a Britney Spears.
Acerca de la muestra, la artista cuenta: “Al entrar al Museo de Artes Visuales (MAVI), el espectador recorrerá un laberinto con dibujos de storyboards, esculturas de cartón, de papel y de plastilina, con fotografías y videos. Al mismo tiempo, los espectadores podrán interactuar con las instalaciones de gran escala que consisten en una enorme escenografía del Titanic, un muro gigante de agua falsa, entre otras obras que funcionan como telones cinematográficos para quieres los quieran activar”.
La exhibición “Profundo” se inaugura el 14 de enero de 2016, a las 19.30 horas. La muestra se exhibirá hasta el 27 de marzo en MAVI, ubicado en José Victorino Lastarria 307.
La artista.
Claudia Bitrán es una artista chilena-estadounidense que vive en Nueva York. Estudió arte en la Universidad Católica de Chile (2009) y luego un Magíster en pintura en Rhode Island School of Design (2013). Es una artista multidisciplinaria que trabaja con pintura, video, performance y sonido. Ha participado de numerosas residencias, de exhibiciones de arte y festivales de videos internacionales. En Chile, recientemente, obtuvo la primera Mención honrosa en el concurso Juan Downey de la Bienal de Artes Mediales.

It is her fascination with pop that took her to look at the ultra-popular “Titanic” movie that James Cameron premiered in 1997. Her idea? Remake this famous film, but with waste materials such as cardboard and plasticine to create the scenographies of different scenes that Claudia Bitrán stars,directs and produces along with friends, artists and strangers who have contributed with their performances.
It is also one of the largest projects that this Chilean-American visual artist, graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Católica, has developed throughout her career. What will she exhibit? An exhibition that shows the whole backstage of her work to get to the film “Titanic, a deep emotion,” the film that remakes the well-known film and that she has been working for a year and a half.
The exhibition is named “Profundo” / “Deep” and it exposes photographs, videos, cardboard sculptures, paper and plasticine, among other works that have given life to her film and that reveals how monumental the Titanic Ship was. “In this exhibition, viewers will be able to immerse themselves in the seductive, obscure, humorous and surprisingly deep fantasies of the pop world,” explains Claudia Bitrán, who is also known for her participation in the channel 13 program Mi nombre es/ My Name is…, where she interpreted meticulously as Britney Spears.
About the exhibition, the artist says: “E ntering the Museum of Visual Arts (MAVI), the spectator will walk through a hall way with drawings of storyboards, cardboard sculptures, paper and plasticine, with photographs and videos. At the same time, viewers will be able to interact with big installations, of a huge set of Titanic, a giant wall of fake water, among other works that act as movie screens for those who want to activate them.
The “Profundo” “Deep”exhibition will be inaugurated on January 14, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. The exhibition will be exhibited until March 27 in MAVI, located in José Victorino Lastarria 307.
The artist.
Claudia Bitrán is a Chilean-American artist living in New York. She studied art at the Catholic
University of Chile (2009) and then a master’s degree in painting at Rhode Island School of Design (2013). She is a multidisciplinary artist who works with painting, video, performance and sound. She has participated in several residencies, art exhibitions and international video festivals. In Chile, she recently won the first Honorable Mention in the Juan Downey Contest of the Biennial of Media Arts.
